There’s nothing quite like getting outside and breathing in some fresh Gippsland air on the weekend. Surrounded by hills and scenic parks, Warragul is ideal for anyone who loves nature while having a relaxed family time or recharging solo. These places are a short drive from town. So, let’s pack up and make the most of the outdoors!
Relaxing Start at Civic Park
Located in the heart of town, Civic Park is the go-to spot for a bit of downtime. It’s the main park in the Civic Precinct and offers you a wide open space for a peaceful stroll. You’ll find a pond with ducks swimming around, a rotunda, and even a little manmade water features. Plenty of green space with shady trees for a picnic and a playground for the kids, making it an instant favourite for families.
Walk or Cycle The Two Towns Trail
If you’re keen to stretch your legs, the Two Towns Trail is a fantastic option. It’s a ~8 km track that connects Warragul with the neighbouring town of Drouin, linking to Linear Parks Art Discovery Trail.
This trail is great for a walk or a bike ride, taking you through some soothing green scenery of Mt. Worth, Baw Baw Ranges, and the Strzelecki Ranges. As it’s all outdoors, make sure you wear comfortable shoes and check the weather before you head out.
Full-Day Bushwalking Adventure at Mount Worth State Park
If you want to get properly amongst nature, Mount Worth State Park is about 15 km south of Warragul. Offering various walking tracks, this is where you’ll find rainforest and plenty of local flora and fauna, like crimson rosella parrot, lyrebird, and bushtailed possum.
You can choose a short track that takes about an hour or two at the Giant Circuit, or you can easily spend a whole day exploring Moonlight Divide circuits or Waterfall-Bower. Don’t forget to bring your own water and good hiking shoes. Heading there in the morning is a great idea, as it’s usually cooler and the wildlife is more active.
