Table of Contents

We’ll never get tired of reminding you that Warragul is full of great spots for a weekend escape. Mount Worth is brilliant, and the Two Towns Trail is a fantastic ride. But, sometimes, you want a weekend escape that involves less hiking boot prep and more relaxing trail. Sound like you? This is the itinerary for that weekend, and the most important part of a no-fuss weekend: no-fuss food.

The Weekend Getaway Start: Pika Sushi Warragul

Before you head anywhere, your first stop is Pika Sushi Warragul to fuel up your energy. Order lunch with one of our handrolls, such as the Avocado Cucumber or Chicken Karaage Mayo. You can also pick up one of Pika Sushi platters that the whole family can enjoy while you’re exploring Warragul and its surroundings.

Where to Take Your Picnic

Now you’ve got the food, let’s start the escape routes to a few of Warragul’s best spots to relax.

Nature Escape at Glen Nayook Rainforest Walk

Located about 25 minutes north of Warragul, this lush rainforest makes a refreshing stop at the Glen Nayook Reserve. The trail winds through tall Mountain Ash trees, giant tree ferns, and a stream of the Tarago River that disappears underground for about 100 metres.

The main walk is moderate (rated Level 3 by Visit Gippsland), with some steep sections. So, if you’re going with kids, the gentler route might be a better choice. Picnic tables are available near the car park, where you can unpack your sushi platter and enjoy a snack in nature.

The Quiet Intermission: Drouin War Memorial Park

After a morning walk in the forest, you’ll appreciate this place. Head to Drouin for a quiet walk of reflection. This isn’t a playground, but a tranquil memorial park and cemetery. Seeping in the stillness as you clear your head and soak in some local history.

Bonus: Catch The Local Experience at Warragul Showgrounds

The Warragul Show is a huge annual agricultural event, usually held on the first weekend of March. It’s a treat of a full-on country show with livestock, exhibitions, and events. If you are in town for the show, remember that it’ll be packed. Swing by Pika Sushi on your way to the showgrounds and grab a sushi pack or some handrolls.

For the Night: Stay at Nearby Inn

This is optional. If you’d rather extend your trip, there are cozy inns and B&Bs around Warragul for an overnight stay before heading home.

On Your Way Back: Stop by The Local Hub

Warragul Town Centre

This is your chance to recharge before heading back to Warragul. Browse the shops, grab a coffee from a local cafe, and get the vibe of the town. Once you’ve had your coffee and are ready for a proper lunch, you know where to find us.

Hogget Kitchen

Serving modern Australian cooking, Hogget Kitchen offers stunning views over the vineyards to end your trip with high-quality dinner. Their menu changes weekly based on what’s best from local Gippsland farms and do all the cooking in-house. It’s a full dining experience that tourists and locals travel for, so you’ll most likely need to book a reservation.

The No-Fuss Easy Picnic Setup

Skip the kitchen prep and let Pika Sushi do the cooking for you.

If you’re heading out with a group of 3-4 people, grab a Regular Sushi Platter. You can choose up to six different flavours, so everyone can get something they like. For the larger group up to five people, you can pick up the Premium Platter, which includes the fancy Dragon Roll, Salmon Tobiko Bomb Rolls, and sashimi, or go for the Salmon Platter if you’re a seafood fan.

A great weekend escape doesn’t have to be an exhausting adventure. Sometimes, the best break means good food in a nice park. So, skip the stress, grab a platter from Pika Sushi Warragul, and enjoy the easy side of West Gippsland.
